The LTech 50

Liberty Valley is a fictional town located in the Shenandoah Valley Region of Virginia. As a small town, the population relied on Liberty Valley Pharmaceutical Technologies for their medical needs, in lieu of a proper hospital. Called LTech for short by the locals, the facility dabbled in all sorts of medical research, testing, and primary care.

Dr. Gerald was an employee of LTech. His genious was unparalled, and he was once considered one of the top geneticists in the United States. But his theories were unethical, and he was shunned by a majority of the medical community early in his career. Due to his reputation, he was unable to be involved in most research. By gaining credibility with the LTech company, he became the head of the Animal Testing Department.

These factors led to the creation of the "genlings". Unable to satiate his genious, Gerald found that he could create human beings that shared DNA with the many animals he had access to. Gathering genetics from animal DNA samples and organ donors from LTech, the first genlings were born. As Gerald progressed, he found that he could improve upon his creations. Fifty genlings later, he was finally satisfied.

For fourteen years Dr. Gerald and his assistants developed medical breakthroughs using research done with the genlings. The genlings themselves grew from babies, to children, to teens. Never allowed to leave the facility or even interact with one another, their personalities ranged from anxiety and depression to paranoia and post traumatic stress.

It was an evening in early spring when a fire spread through the Animal Testing Department. Destoying most of the documents concerning the genling's creation and testing, it left little knowledge of the genlings research. However, the fire also brought the attention of fire fighters, police, and ambulances. The genlings that Gerald had crated in secret were discovered. The scientist and his team were arrested and eventually prosecuted on multiple charges.

What to do with the fifty genetically altered, socially inept, and traumatized teenagers became the responsibility of Maureen Hayes, Liberty Valley's Head of Social Services. LTech had become severely discredited, and many residents of the Valley found themselves jobless. The genlings became an international interest, with press and paparazzi flocking to the small town. After the genlings were hospitalized and given psychiatric evaluation, an overwhelmed Hayes made the decision to treat them as she would any other orphans.

Being a small town, Hayes knew most of the influential people in Liberty Valley. She called upon them to be foster parents for the few genlings that were cleared by psychiatrists. Over time, all of the genlings eventually found foster families and slowly began imersing themselves into modern day culture.

One of the first genlings to attempt a normal life was Miibu. The last of the genlings, number fifty, he had been Dr. Gerald's favorite. Despite the fact that some of the most painful mdical reserach had been perofrmed on him, Miibu somehow retained an optimistic view of life. It was that optimism that caused him to be the first genling student at East Liberty Valley High School. As Miibu entered the sophmore class, that is where the story of the LTech 50 truly begins...
